Sparkly Snowflake Ornaments

The weekly DT challenge over at Becky's Sweet Creations this week was to create an ornament. I just happened to be at Michael's the other evening when they had their special 25% off your entire purchase (including sale items!) sale from 4pm-9pm. Let's just say I spent a little more than I should have... :) While looking for something to inspire my ornament I found these super cute wooden snowflakes for only $1! Well, technically 75 cents since I got them 25% off. :) I found some winter-colored acrylic paint (only 69 cents) and painted them and then spruced them up with a bit of glitter.

The paint on the snowflake looks grey, but it's really blue. Take a look at the pictures below if you don't believe me! :)

I actually used two different color silver glitters for this snowflake. It's hard to tell in the picture, but you can sort of see it a little bit. :/

Other than a paint brush and an Elmer's glue pen, here's what I used to make the ornaments:

For the glitter, I used the colors 'Silver', 'Ocean', and 'Bling' For the acrylic paint, I used the colors 'Slate Grey' and 'Winter Blue.'

Here's a close-up of the actual paint color. See, I told you it was blue! :)

I'm so thankful for the wonderful ladies on my DT and also anyone who has supported my blog over the past six months or so. It's hard to believe how fast time has gone, and I'm so happy with the progress my blog has made. Thanks to everyone who has helped it grow! Have a very, very happy Thanksgiving. :)

DT Challenge - Altered Tea Light

Hello fellow bloggers! :) I recently became a part of another design over at Becky's Sweet Creations. This week's challenge was to create an altered tea light. Let me tell you, it was definitely a challenge! Majority of my creations are cards and I only do very few altering projects - this was definitely unique! The challenge was posted on Monday (I know, I know, I'm a little late posting this. But better late than never, right?) you can view all of the other design team's creations here.

Sorry about the blurry picture, I cropped it and unfortunately the quality didn't remain as good as the original. For my altered tea light, I painted it with blue acrylic paint and then hot glued decorative shells around the border, and added some blue and green glitter on top. It was really simple and fun to make!

Unfortunately it wasn't dark out when I took the picture, but I tried to get a good perspective of what it looks like when it's lit up. I cupped my hand around the tea light so you could at least tell it was turned on.

Sorry to make today's post quick, this week has been absolutely CRAZY. I'm so sorry for my lack of posting!

Just a reminder that the design team call is open until next Sunday, October 1st. Anyone is eligible to apply, I'd love to have you on my first design team! :)

Thanks for reading!

Altered Sketch Binder

I've been meaning to do this for quite a while now, and when I saw that Queen of my Craftroom posted an altered project challenge, I knew this was the perfect opportunity. I have a binder that contains card sketches from all different types of sources (personal creations, blogs, books, etc) that I keep for when I suffer from "crafter's block" and need some sort of inspiration.

Last night (while watching the fifth season of Dexter, I finally got my hands on a copy!) I got around to altering my sketch binder. I forgot to take a before picture (oops) but basically it was a clear, plastic binder with the black border on the left-hand side.

I applied the patterned paper and then glued the purple paper on top. I bordered the purple paper with alternating blue, green and purple gems and then used chipboard letters for the title. I handmade the flowers by tracing some die cut flowers I have onto the color paper I wanted, and then applied the pearl adhesives once the flowers were finished.

I definitely had some fun with my iRock while making this!

I'm off to watch some more Dexter, I've worked 8 hour shifts the past two days and am completely exhausted. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading! :)
